Your HVAC system can leave you in a world of ups or downs…

When your AC system works in the long Summer months, you’re on the up and up. When your furnace keeps you warm during Winter, well it’s safe to say that there aren’t any complaints.

However, what happens when it’s 100+ degrees outside, your AC blows out, you’re out of ice, and the kids are crying?

It can be tough…

We’re writing this article today so that you can stay on the “up and up” and have one less thing to worry about in the Winter and the Summer.

Pro Tip #1: Keep the Air Flowing

if you let the air flow in your house good things will happen

We have heard many of our past customers ask us what the best way to lower their energy bills are during peak seasons for HVAC use. We’re often told from our customers that the best method they hear about is to close rooms that are not in use and to close vents so the air flows in one location only.

In theory, this sounds good, but it’s not.

There a couple of things that happen that make you spend more money if you restrict airflow:

1)    You capture hot or cool air in one room, and by the laws of nature, that air must escape somehow. What ends up happening is that the hot air finds pockets to escape in and thus increases your energy uses.

2)    The air stops flowing through your HVAC system which means that the air is no longer being filtered. This creates issues that could bring about mold, high carbon monoxide levels, and dust in the air.

Our tip here is simple, keep your rooms open to let the air flow in your home.

Pro Tip #2: Get an HVAC tune-up twice a year

Many homeowners want to save money by only getting their HVAC systems checked once per year, and in theory, this sounds like a great idea. Not only will you save money, but you will also save some time in the process. There’s just one problem with that though…

… Think about your car for just a moment. You need an oil change, but you decide to go an extra 5,000 miles above the recommended without an oil change. Will your risk of damage rise significantly with each mile?

Of course, and in much the same way, you’ll want to take care of your HVAC system. The best time for a tune-up is in the fall and spring seasons before your usage goes up. You’ll ensure that your systems are running at their best, and an honest HVAC professional will let you know how well your system is doing.

Besides, would you really want to have to call an HVAC professional if your system is broken in the middle of the Summer or Winter?
