About Antelope, California

It’s been nearly 40 years since Antelope, California has been master-planned, and since that time the city has seen strong growth. Before the 1980s, Antelope was a smaller community that has seen different periods of growing or subtracting population counts.

As of now, with a total square area of 6.8 miles, Antelope is home to over 45,000 residents. Antelope is about 15 miles away from Sacramento and 5 miles southwest of Roseville. The borders of Antelope are Roseville Road, Antelope Road, Elverta Road, and following along Dry Creek.

If we look at Antelope, California in 1880 we can see smaller beginnings. With a population of about 400 people, Antelope was home to many of the railroad workers that were in the area. However, as the workers began to move on, the more the population dwindled in Antelope.

By 1973, Antelope had half a dozen homes, a general store, and a post office. Unfortunately, on April 28, 1973, at about 8:03 a.m., the aircraft bombs loaded on a rail car exploded in a fiery blaze that destroyed the general store, produced heavy damage on most of the homes, and devastated the southern part of the Southern Pacific’s Roseville Yard.

Antelope was essentially blown away.

It wasn’t until the master plan for Antelope came to be that the community began to rapidly grow. The plan had accounted for apartments and single-family homes. The name for Antelope was founded by a vote in 1993 and its official designation as a town came about on July 1, 1994.

Residents currently living in Antelope CA have a host of things they can do or places they can visit. For people that enjoy nature preserves the Gibson Ranch County Park is available. If sports fields, pools, and play equipment are of interest, the Antelope Community Park provides all of these things. Equestrianism is also available at the Gibson Ranch Park Road. There are also many parks nearby such as Tetotom Park, Dry Creek Community Park, Blue Oak Park, and Brock Park.
